## Publication A preprint of the manuscript was uploaded to BioRxiv in October 2018 (doi: https://doi.org/10.1101/437939). The manuscript was published in Royal Society Open Science: Woodhead ZVJ, Bradshaw AR, Wilson AC, Thompson PA and Bishop DVM (2019). Testing the unitary theory of language lateralization using functional transcranial Doppler sonography in adults. Royal Society Open Science, 6(3), https://doi.org/10.1098/rsos.181801. ## Overview This is an ERC funded study, run by Dorothy Bishop at the University of Oxford. This OSF project contains: * Data simulation scripts * Preregistration documentation * Task scripts and stimuli * Data * Analysis scripts * Supplementary Materials, i.e. results not included in the published manuscript ## Simulations and Power Calculation The following files from Github were used for simulations used in the pre-registration: **simulating_laterality_data.R** This was used to simulate data from 6 tasks. The results from this script are saved to file and can be used for model evaluation. **SEM_power_test.R** This uses OpenMx and considers how far it is possible to distinguish 1-factor and bifactor models, based on the data generated by the previous script. ## Preregistration The project was pre-registered on OSF as part of the Preregistration Challenge. Following data collection, an amendment was made to the analysis plan, as described in the **amended A2 protocol.docx** (<https://osf.io/bjsv8/>). ## Task Scripts and Stimuli 6 language tasks were used in this study, which were presented using Psychtoolbox in Matlab. The scripts and stimuli are available here: <https://osf.io/8s7vn/>. ## Data All (anonymised) data from the project are available here: <https://osf.io/s9kx6/>. The data includes: * Participant demongraphic information, **A2_Participant_Info.csv** * Behavioural data on language task performance, **A2_Behavioural_Data.csv** * Raw functional transcranial doppler (fTCD) data, **A2_fTCD_Data.zip** * Preprocessed fTCD data, averaged across epochs for each individual and for each task, **A2_fTCD_AveragedEpochData.zip** * Information on which fTCD trials were included and excluded, **Triallist.xlsx** * Analysed fTCD results from Sessions 1 (**Results_Session1.csv**) and 2 (**Results_Session2.csv**) * A data dictionary ## Analysis Scripts Three analysis scripts are available here: * The script used to preprocess the raw fTCD data and extract laterality index (LI) values, **A2_doppler_analysis_v2.R** * The script used to analyse the LI values and report the Results section of the manuscript, **A2_main_forking_paths.Rmd**. Note, this script can be modified to explore the effects of changing analysis parameters * The script used to perform the analysis according to the preregistered analysis plan and to produce the Supplementary Materials, **A2_supp_analysis.Rmd** * The script used to perform the posthoc analyses suggested by reviewers, **A2_response_to_reviewers.R** ## Supplementary Materials This document is generated by the A2_supp_analysis.Rmd document and provides Results that were not included in the main manuscript. This includes the results following the preregistered analysis plan. [1]: https://doi.org/10.1098/rsos.181801
