Wiki Version:
Results and Analyses -------------------- **Sample characteristics** In total there were 126 valid participant responses (N Smile = 59; N Pout = 67), after exclusions (initial N = 158). **Overall findings** The mean funniness ratings were higher for the smile condition (M = 4.551 , SD = 1.693) compared to the pout condition (M = 4.127, SD = 1.409), with an independent t-test revealing this to be just outside significance - t(124) = 1.516, p = .066. An independent samples t-test Bayes factor (in favor of the hypothesis that the smile condition has a larger mean rating) of 0.994 suggests that this difference is not strongly supported. These patterns remain the same even if no participants are excluded - t(156) = 1.574, p = 0.059, BF = 1.
