The files contained in this project can be used to re-create the analyses for the article "The Matthew Effect in Science Funding", published in The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
The whole folder can be downloaded as a zip-file. Once the data are placed in the "data"-folder, all figures and tables will be generated in the designated folders.
The code folder contains the following do-files and R-scripts:
1. **main_analyses**, which recreates all the figures in the main text of the published article (Figures 1-4).
2. **appendix**, which recreates all the Supplementary Information Appendix Figures (S1-S16) and tables (S1-S9).
3. **Five R-scripts** that are used to generate figures and tables in the supplementary appendix. The names of the r-scripts resemble the names of the figures and tables.
Due to legal restrictions from the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO), we are not allowed to share the raw data. This means that the full set of analyses cannot be reproduced without getting access from NWO.
The replication package does however contain a much more condensed dataset, by which those who are interested are able to reproduce two crucial figures (Figure 1a, 1b). This dataset is called condensed_data.dta and contains the following 3 variables:
1. Rank from the cutoff
2. Won a Vidi
3. Applied for a Vidi
The condensed dataset can be found in the data folder. All further information can be found in readme.txt.
