Wiki Version:
### Welcome to the TOPSTATS-MICRODATA project web-presence. TOPSTATS-MICRODATA is funded by the OeAW (Austrian Academy of Sciences, [LINK-OUT][2]). The project started in July 2024. --- ### News We will be participating at the following Conferences - [ROeS 2025 in Graz (14-18.09)][6] with 3 Presentations ([Abstracts][8]) - [ISCB 2025 in Basel (24-28.08)][7] with 1 Presentation ([Abstract][9]) - [CEN 2026 in Warsaw (18-1.05.2026)][10] with a Keynoe appearance --- ### Abstract Microdata create the evidence base for public health decision-making but also pose many challenges to analysts. A single research question can lead to many sensible paths of analysis, depending on a researcher's experience and personal preferences. This can lead to variation in results, also termed 'vibration of effects', which the public may perceive as a variation of researchers' opinions. Consequently, this natural variation may have contributed to the evident public skepticism toward science. Using Austrian microdata we investigate the vibration of effects in 3 health-related research questions on 1) the effectiveness of branded vs generic chronic disease medications, 2) the association of cancer incidence with nightshift work, and 3) the effect of kidney transplantation on survival in diabetic persons. For each of these objectives we will develop a consensus state-of-the-art (SOTA) statistical analysis plan (SAP) as well as meta-SAPs, comprising all sensible alternative options at each aspect of a SAP. Data analysis will follow the SOTA-SAPs and all pathways opened by the meta-SAPs. We will publish our insights in 2 peer-reviewed journal. The detail of analysis will surpass any previous results on the 3 health-related objectives, warranting 3 further subject-specific publications. We will also deploy 2 web applications to communicate the vibration of effects to researchers and laypeople, and provide an improved SAP template for reproducible and replicable microdata analyses. --- ### Dissemination We were pleased to present a segment of the TOPSTATS Project at the 3rd STRATOS Workshop, taking place in Leiden, Netherlands, from September 16-20, 2024. We invite you to explore our research in more detail through the poster provided below, which is also being showcased at the workshop. We encourage you to share our project page with colleagues and other interested participants who may wish to take part in our coding experiment. Here is our flyer ([LINK-OUT][3]). The first poster describes the idea of the project and presents our three case studies. @[osf](mpzgv)

The second poster gives detail on the case study on survival benefit after kidney transplantation in Austria. @[osf](528mu) [1]: https://i.imgur.com/7B5296y.png "Header" [2]: https://www.oeaw.ac.at/en/funding/dataresearchaustria [3]: https://osf.io/x3yu7 [4]: https://i.imgur.com/O5Wspqu.png "Header" [5]: https://osf.io/528mu [6]: https://www.roes2025.at/ [7]: https://iscb2025.info/ [8]: https://osf.io/uj7zh [9]: https://osf.io/53sef [10]: https://members.biometricsociety.org/events/event-description?CalendarEventKey=e23b038f-54bc-4281-95ba-0197123a3f20&CommunityKey=cd5dabcc-7557-4447-a2b8-01849a870ece&Home=%2Fmeetings%2Fevents
