Description: The present study is a follow-up on a previous study (osf.io/6xm8w) and aims to investigate visual and auditory perception of mixed emotions. Stimuli consist of brief video clips of actors expressing various combinations of mixed emotions through facial gestures, body movement and vocal sounds. Actors were instructed to express all pairwise combinations of the following emotions, with the intention that both emotions should be equally prominent in the resulting expression: anger, disgust, fear, happiness, and sadness. In order to assess and compare visual and auditory perception of mixed emotions, participants will rate the stimuli in two conditions (video-only and audio-only) with regard to how clearly they perceive different emotions. Ratings are conducted on scales from 0 (emotion not at all prominent) to 10 (emotion very prominent). Participants will be specifically instructed to give ratings on 2 of the 5 available rating scales (anger, disgust, fear, happiness, and sadness) in order to assess if the two intended emotions of each stimulus can be perceived.
