Description: The current study investigates the potential acoustic adaptations made by Norwegian parents when introducing known versus unknown words to their infants, thereby assessing the proposed didactic role of infant-directed speech (IDS). We do so using data from three existing studies (Rosslund et al., 2022, 2023, 2024). Across all datasets, parents—identified as the infants' primary caregivers at the time—were recorded in a laboratory setting during a shared reading interaction with their infant (IDS) and with an experimenter (adult-directed speech; ADS). Recordings were collected when infants were 8 months in Rosslund et al., 2023, 18 months in Rosslund et al., 2022, and longitudinally at 9, 12, 15, and 18 months in Rosslund et al., 2024. At each corresponding time point, parents reported whether their infant understood and/or produced a set of target words included in the picture book.
