Wiki Version:
In this study we examined illusory correlation effects on self-reported or explicit evaluations and more automatic or implicit evaluations. An illusory correlation can be defined as the phenomenon of perceiving a relationship between variables when no such relationship exists. We have run two experiments that used the IAT as implicit evaluation and a third and fourth experiment that use the AMP and EPT. The results are published at Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin: Van Dessel, P., Ratliff, K., Brannon, S.M., Gawronski, B., & De Houwer, J. (in press). Illusory-Correlation Effects on Implicit and Explicit Evaluation. Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin.
