Hughes et al 2004 3 item measure of loneliness;
Daily Quality of Life measure (4 item measure);
Five experimental conditions: 0 days abstinence from social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat), 7 days, 14 days, 21 days, 28 days.
Additional measures: A fourth item from Hughes scale was included in the original study to enable factor validation if one item poorly performed. A four item measure of affective well-being was included in the final study.
Final Confirmatory Factor Analysis Results: A multilevel confirmatory factor analysis was conducted in Mplus (Muthen & Muthen, 1998–2012) to confirm the factorial structure of the three dependent variables while controlling for the nested structure of the data. Three latent factors composed of four items each were included in one model. The intraclass correlations of quality of day ranged from .222-.350, for affective well-being ranged from .261-.300, and for loneliness ranged from .281-.397. The global fit of the model was very good: RMSEA = .038, CFI = .964, TLI = .954, SRMR: within-subjects = .026; between-subjects = .085. All three measures were also reliable: loneliness α = .86, affective well-being α = .81, quality of day α = .86.
