Description: This study aimed to test whether speakers show convergence in voice fundamental frequency during synchronised (choral) speech. Experiment 1 found that speakers showed convergence in voice F0 towards the F0 of a voice they were synchronising with, in both upward (high F0 accompanist condition) and downward (low F0 accompanist condition) directions. Experiment 2 found that these convergent changes in F0 were not found when participants spoke in synchrony with silent videos of talkers (visual choral speech condition). Convergence was also not significantly increased when participants could both see and hear the other speaker (audiovisual choral speech condition).
