Description: These studies investigate individual differences in the experience of elevation, considering the immediate social context, social capital, and socially-relevant personality and attitude measures. Two separable lines of work have developed: (1) Social Context (formerly "Friends") studies use field methods focusing on the social state of the participant (alone vs. with another person) at the time of recruitment, and (2) studies focusing on the personality correlates of elevation, idealism, and prosocial contagion. Our report, "Elevation, an emotion for prosocial contagion, is experienced more strongly by those with greater expectations of the cooperativeness of others" includes Studies 1 and 3 from this line, there called Studies 9 and 10.
