Wiki Version:
**Thanks** for your interest in our poster! A **video** with a poster presentation is available as well as the corresponding **text transcript**. The first author will be available for questions and comments during the **poster session on Friday**. ---------- **Short Abstract** We explore an information-theoretic account to the usage of topic drop (Ross 1982; Fries 1988), i.e. the omission of a preverbal constituent in German, based on data from a corpus study and two rating studies. We investigate the influence of several factors that impact the processing effort of topic drop: grammatical person, verb surprisal, verb type and topicality. To account for the results, we argue that the use of topic drop follows information-theoretic processing constraints as modeled by the /Uniform Information Density hypothesis/ (Levy & Jaeger 2007).
