Wiki Version:
A brief description of each file and what it is used for: 1. **McNemar tests_planning.xlsx**: Excel file that contains the yes/no counts for the "Planning" survey items used in the McNemar exact tests. 2. **McNemar_raterReports.xlsx**: Excel file that is identical to Rater reports_JASP.csv except it also contains the counts used in the McNemar exact tests. 2. **Rater reports_JASP**: csv file that contains the consensus scores for participants' writing samples and whether the sample was revised, identical, or completely different from the previously submitted sample. 3. **raw_JASP.csv**: csv file that contains all data from all surveys, prepped for JASP. Missing data codes are removed, and certain "attitudes towards writing" items have been reverse-coded to allow for a composite score to be calculated. Used for most analyses. 4. **raw_fig_data.csv**: csv file that is almost identical to raw_JASP.csv, except the "attitudes towards writing" items contain the original coding (i.e., NOT reverse-coded). Used for calculating the means and counts that appear in Fig. 1. and Fig. 2. 5. **RescueTime.csv**: csv file that contains the Rescue Time data converted into hours. Please refer to Version 2 for the most up-to-date data. 6. **WritingWorkshopRCT.csv**: original data file, contains missing data codes. Not prepped for use in analyses. 7. **WritingWorkshopRCT_codes.csv**: csv file to accompany WritingWorkshopRCT.csv with explanations of the missing data codes. 8. **RCT_Summer2019_data_codebook.pdf, RCT_Fall2019_data_codebook.pdf**: pdf files that contain all variable names, descriptions, and coding schemes for both surveys. There are slight differences (e.g., in the "Planning" items in the Fall survey, we specifically asked about particpants' use of weekly goals, but combined weekly goals and daily goals together in the Summer survey). Notes on missing data: 1. On Survey 1 in the Summer, responses to the question "What is the shortest block of time you can use productively for writing?" were lost due to experimenter error. (The first author tried to change the variable name in the survey software and accidentally deleted the variable and all its data.) 2. To log research and writing time, participants used an app called RescueTime. This app is designed to run unobtrusively in the background of a computer, and many participants either failed to restart the app after shutting down their computers, or failed to reinstall it after updating their operating systems. Consequently, we received only 196/320, or 61.25% of the planned observations for this measure. What is not posted: We have removed all demographic information because with only 32 participants, individuals are identifiable by their demographic information. For the same reason, we have not posted participants' research statements.
