Wiki Version:
Social psychological training aligns well with many types of government and policy careers. However, it can be difficult to navigate this vast landscape. This panel will present information and answer audience questions related to careers in government and policy settings. Panel members represent a range of careers in government and policy settings where applied research contributes to a variety of organizational missions. Each panelist will give a brief introduction highlighting their own professional position. Panel participants are applied researchers embedded in government (National Institutes of Health; US Forest Service), non-profit (The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy), and military (Defense Personnel and Security Research Center; US Army Research, Development and Engineering Command), and thus contribute a wealth of perspectives on careers in these settings. Topics discussed will include academic versus applied environments, preparation for government and policy careers within the framework of social psychology training, where to meet individuals involved in this type of work, and much more.
