Wiki Version:
This week I continued with the inanimate theme, and on my walk to the zoo I spotted a rather characteristic stump and decided to draw it. I wanted to get loose with the sketching but still give the log form, so I used a 3B pencil for the most part and just tried to use contours to capture the shape and some of the texture of the stump. I think I should have done it on a larger scale, and then I would have been able to add more detail, though I think part of the challenge is that I struggle to realistically depict something on a large scale with as little time as I have at the zoo. As I move into the last two weeks of school, I am going to attempt a painting project, so it will be interesting to see how well I can depict the animal in the scale of the enclosure. I'd like to do the tigers, though I'm not sure they'd stay still enough, but the product would be really cool if I can pull it off. I also just got an easel, which I am very excited to use in the field.
