Description: In this secondary analysis of five randomised placebo-controlled trials of nicotine replacement therapy for smoking reduction we aim to: 1. Use latent class analysis to determine if there are trajectories in cigarettes per day overtime, in people who are asked to reduce their smoking before quitting, without specific instructions on how to do so. 2. Determine which (if any) baseline participant characteristics predict latent class membership. 3. Determine whether latent class membership is associated with quit attempts, and biochemically verified smoking cessation, whilst controlling for participant characteristics.
