Description: Philosophers and scholars have long debated whether consciousness is a purely physical phenomenon or has non-physical properties. For example, the "hard problem” of consciousness, as David Chalmers named it, centers around the difficulty of explaining how and why physical processes give rise to subjective experiences. Understanding public intuitions about consciousness is crucial for bridging the gap between philosophical theories and empirical science. We designed a study to investigate whether the general population shares the intuition that consciousness is non-physical, a notion traditionally confined to philosophical discussions.
