Wiki Version:
Abstract: We present a commercially-designed, patient-centered, telehealth model of hearing healthcare delivery that addresses the affordability and accessibility concerns raised by the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine, the US Congress, and consumers while maintaining the audiologist’s critical involvement as a central component of care throughout the patient journey and eliminating the threat of COVID infection associated with in-clinic visits. We describe the various steps in this remotely-delivered, patient-centered journey to include the implementation of an online hearing test, determination of candidacy to include screening for potential otologic and otoneurologic contraindications, establishment of specific and measurable patient goals through face-to-face consultations utilizing the Client Outcome Scale of Improvement (COSI), the execution of remote hearing aid tuning, and the utilization of scheduled face-to-face follow-up appointments to optimize the patient care experience to include an assessment of outcomes. Our presentation will detail the benefits and limitations of a comprehensive eAudiology model and our outcome data to date.
