In our study, we argue based on German data that occasion verbs like "congratulate" are presuppositional in nature. We also provide evidence that this verb class allows for the cataphoric verification of their presupposed content. "Occasion verbs" are known as the "Agent-Evocator" sub-class of Implicit Causality verbs much studied in psycholinguistics. They display some overlap with Fillmore's judgment verbs.
