Description: Gaslighting is a popular term that is pervasive among media and public discourse. Despite this, it is a severely under researched area, and there is little consensus about the definition and application of gaslighting. Therefore, the current project aims to investigate common definitions and understandings of gaslighting among the general public. Participants will be asked to complete an online survey, in which they will read a brief vignette describing an interaction between a couple. The participants will then be asked questions about whether they thought the interaction included gaslighting or not, and what they believe the definition of gaslighting should be. They will also be asked to complete a brief gaslighting questionnaire, which will describe classic gaslighting behaviours, and whether they believe they are acceptable or not. It is hoped that this information will be useful for understanding public perceptions and recognition of gaslighting in interpersonal relationships.
