Wiki Version:
This week I decided to draw some inanimate objects and try to focus on depicting texture and shadow in a grey scale. It proved to be much more difficult than I previously thought, and I think size of the canvas may have been part of the problem. With the fallen log that I did, I was trying to draw a certain section of the log, but I ended up drawing things too large, and I had to cut out large sections of it. The pinecones were easier, more managable, and I liked being able to move them around and think about how to portray the unique shadows on each one. This was a challenging activity, and though it strays from my original plan, I intend to do a few more similar studies in hopes of achieving a better understanding of how to portray things in a grey scale realistically and in proper proportion to the way I actually am seeing them.
