Wiki Version:
Having a social network is an important aspect of maintaining good health because social contact with others helps people regulate their body temperature, which is crucial for survival. People offer warmth to one another, which carries enough benefits to have a calming and stress reducing effects on others and allows for the formation of trust to build between individuals (Uvnaes-Moberg, 1998). This exchange in heat is known as thermoregulation. Recent findings have been able to show that warmth, even if present in the ambient environment, is able to elicit positive attitudes towards interpersonal relations (Williams and Bargh, 2008). This paper therefore aims to further explore this new finding, namely, if ambient warm temperatures are able to impacts people’s sociality. The research objective is to analyze if warmth can positively impact sociality if paired together with interpersonal therapy, due to our assumption that humans make positive associations with warmth throughout childhood. This hypothesized trend will be explored in people with unipolar depression. Unipolar depression has high burden on many high income countries and prolonged suffering impairs quality of life of both the patient and the relatives (Cuijpers et al, 2011). Social withdrawal is a common characteristic, which makes them a good focus group to see if ambient warmth is able to improve their willingness to socially integrate. **HIJ I was struggling a bit to see how it fits with the rest, but I presume that this is your opening paragraph, correct? If so, then it is sufficient, though the last two sentences went into too much detail for the opening paragraph.**
