Wiki Version:
Basic Replication Analyses -------------------------- The original paper describes simple t-tests comparing the primary DVs from the two experimental conditions. This same procedure will be used in our own analyses. Additional Analyses from Items in the Original Studies ------------------------------------------------------ The original study did not report whether or not recalling an unethical vs ethical deed influenced mood or other judgments about the room (e.g., temperature; part of the filler task). We will also use t-tests to see if the experimental manipulation influenced these other judgments, or if the effect of the manipulation is unique to light judgments. Extension Analyses ------------------ To see if any of the proposed moderators (importance of morality, conservatism, religiosity, Puritan religiosity) affect the strength of the manipulation we will conduct moderated regression analyses. The experimental conditions will be contrast coded and the continuous moderator variables will be mean-centered. The DVs will be regressed onto the contrast coded and mean-centered predictors. Any significant interaction will be probed at plus/minus 1 SD of the continuous measure's mean.
