Abstract: Arizona State University’s Speech and Hearing Clinic faculty and students provide person-centered group rehabilitation to individuals with hearing loss and their communication partners. The goals of this rehabilitation program are twofold: 1) support and educate individuals in the community who are learning to manage the effects of their hearing loss, and 2) provide interprofessional preparation to students in our AuD and SLP clinical training programs. The aims of this presentation are to discuss the transition of both the community education and the clinical training components of this program from an on-ground to an online modality, and to describe strategies for maintaining community connections during the COVID-19 pandemic. One of our long-standing community partners is a local group of retirees who engage in lifelong learning through the community college system. Our clinic has provided community-based rehabilitation for this group for a number of years. In Fall 2020, our partnership transitioned from in-person to online teletherapy sessions. Success and challenges during this transitions from the perspectives of faculty, students, and community partners will be shared. Logistics of managing changes to the curriculum and schedule, approaches to educating participants in use of video teleconference and captioning technology, and strategies for supporting interprofessional student learning will be discussed.
