Wiki Version:
Participants are shown a brief display of four small circles in each quadrant of the screen, while told to keep their eyes on the fixation cross. Three colored digits and a single colored letter then replace the circles, followed by a mask. Participants are then asked to report the quadrant location of the letter. On the surprise trial, participants are told to report the identity of the letter and then the color of the letter. The trial number of the surprise trial is tested at 1, 2, 5, 10, and 50. This modification will enable us to quantify the development of exploitation with the growing strength of participants’ expectations regarding task relevance.
