Wiki Version:
There are two types of accounts of the uniqueness presupposition triggered by English singular which-questions: in one of them, uniqueness is derived from general conditions on the felicity of questions (Dayal 1996), and in the other it is derived from which itself (Hirsch & Schwarz 2019). In this poster, we analyze two types of complex singular wh-items in Brazilian Portuguese: [que NPsg] and [qual NPsg]. We show that they differ in that only the latter triggers uniqueness presuppositions, which we take to suggest that wh-phrases are themselves introduce uniqueness.
