Wiki Version:
**Background:** In fall 2017, four additional quality, innovation and impact-oriented assessment criteria were added to the application portal for professorships at Charité, as recommended in the various EU framework programs on Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI): - Scientific contribution (impact narrative) - Selection of the 5 most important publications incl. impact narrative and information on the own contribution to the publication. - Contribution to Open Science - Contribution to Team Science with naming of the most important collaborations and interactions with relevant actors - In addition, the academic age was introduced as a further dimension and support for the appointment committees in the evaluation of research productivity. Currently, these new criteria, together with the existing application criteria, are made available to the members of the appointment committees (BK) as a pdf document by email and subsequently for printing as a basis for evaluation. In the context of the [WT BIH MERIT project][1], the usability and accessibility of this evaluation basis was critically examined in the past years. Based on these results, the open source prototype software [QUEST MERIT App Open][2] was developed. The MERIT Portal Charité and BIH is a to the local requirements adapted version of this prototype. The introduction of the MERIT Portal for Appointments fits into the strategic goal Charité 2030 Internal Transformation - Redesign of Organizational and Control Mechanisms. In addition, the application's structure, design, and content implement international and national recommendations of important scientific organizations such as the EU, DFG, or the German Council of Science and Humanities (Wissenschaftsrat) for the selection of suitable indicators and principles of good evaluation practice in research. The application is designed for 3 user groups: the applicants, the staff of the appointment and recruitment office, and the members of the appointment committees. **Objectives and approach:** The MERIT Portal Charité aims to - clearly and transparently offer all (research) evaluation criteria, including the quality and innovation-oriented criteria, to applicants for a professorship at the Charité in advance in form of a structured, narrative CV - support the Appointment and Recruitment Office (BO) of the Charité in the academic application and appointment process (advertised professorships) - support the members of the appointment committees in the quality-oriented assessment process The adaptation of the prototype and the implementation of the MERIT Portal Charité includes the following work packages and activities (selection): 1) Technical requirements analysis. - Interface programming - Deployment prototype - Data protection and security concept 2) Testing prototype and requirements analysis with user groups - Elaboration of missing/wanted functionalities - Programming of desired (missing) functionalities - Development of design changes - Programming design - Bug fixes - Deployment and testing - Creation of SOP - Finalization of data protection and security concept - Training of user groups - Internal/external communication 3) Roll Out MERIT App Charité (V1.0) - Further recording of feedback - Possible bug fixes - Technical maintenance - Training 4) Further developments (cont.) (V1.1) - Adaptation and/or addition of further criteria and functionalities MERIT Portal for Appointments at Charité and BIH is a joint project of the BIH QUEST Center and the GB IT of the Charité. Furthermore, representatives of the faculty management and the boards of BIH and Charité, as well as the appointment and recruitment office are involved.
