Description: These sector groupings have been developed to support the analysis of COVID-19 in workplaces being undertaken under the PROTECT National Core Study on the Transmission and Environment (https://sites.manchester.ac.uk/covid19-national-project/). The groupings use Standard Industrial Classifications (SIC) (https://www.ons.gov.uk/methodology/classificationsandstandards/ukstandardindustrialclassificationofeconomicactivities/uksic2007) and break down certain industries of interest, such as education, health, and transport, services, and their subgroups. There are three hierarchy level groups. Level 1 is the highest level and has 11 sectors. Level 2 has 30 sectors. Level 3 is the lowest level and has 34 sectors. The groupings are published in the form of a document and as a csv lookup. These groups have been used to analyse and present findings of COVID-19 clusters, cluster rates and the associated risk factors by industrial sector in the workplace in England.
