Description: Our study delves into the impact of propositional density, or the number of idea units within sentences, on memory recognition. This area has been underexplored, despite its significance in cognitive processing. We aim to address this gap by examining the immediate effects of propositional density on the recognition of text content, and identifying which levels of text representation—surface, textbase, or situation model—are most susceptible to this. Through this investigation, our project seeks to enhance theoretical models of memory and cognitive processing and offer insights with practical applications in educational content development and instructional design, potentially transforming how educational materials are created to optimize learning and memory.
