GenApp is a framework for the rapid creation of applications from
definition files. A program is brought into GenApp as a module by
writing a definition file. Everything the framework needs to know about
the program is included in the module definition file. This strategy has
worked well and GenApp has had success building capable science
gateways. Integrated advanced dynamic user interface features such as
nested repeaters, calculated fields, plotting and molecular
visualizations provide a rich user experience. However, the overall look
and feel has been neglected since the introduction of GenApp. We have
addressed this through two consulting engagements with the Science
Gateways Community Institute—the first with the Incubator team to
enhance the usability and visual design of GenApp and the second with
the Extended Developer Support team to implement the changes recommended
by the Incubator team. In this poster we give background on GenApp and
detail our enhancements to provide enhanced style and layout capabilities.
