Abes of Maine was founded in 1979 as a family operated business by three brothers. Its first location was in Old Orchard Beach, near Portland, Maine. Firstly it started operating as a summer shop and later on became a more permanent fixture in 1981. It was opened for a year round. Abes of Maine carried primarily cameras and electronics. Soon, Abes of Maine began advertising itself in national magazines like Popular Photography, Shutterbug, etc. They added the addition “of Maine” beneath the name of the store, in order to inform the customers about the store location. Over the years, this store became popular under the name “Abes of Maine”. The store was moved to a new location - Brooklyn, in 1986. The owners of Abes of Maine decided to keep the addition “of Maine” to the name of the store. Presently, Abes of Maine has expanded their line, adding different sorts of electronics. For more than 40 years, it has been a leader in the field of high quality photography equipment. Company’s business is growing and reaching new places.
