Wiki Version:
The project is of great international importance because expressions of hate affect both public and private actors responsible for safeguarding democratic values, social cohesion, and peaceful coexistence in each country, including media professionals. The project's impact will stem from the production of various types of knowledge and products that are linked to its general and specific objectives, which include the creation of an algorithm for detecting hate speech in digital environments related to the news media in Spain and the development of an application for monitoring and detecting hate speech in digital environments that are associated with Spanish professional news media. This impact is expected to promote social and academic debate and facilitate the monitoring of this type of expression by the actors analyzed in this study, such as professional news media organizations. Additionally, it is expected to encourage public and private actors, such as governmental bodies and third sector and media organizations, to take action to promote democratic dialogue, coexistence, and tolerance in Spanish society, particularly in favour of vulnerable groups such as women, immigrants, the LGBTI community, gipsy population, and Muslims, who are affected by hate speech based on their gender, race, origin, religion, or sexual orientation.
