Wiki Version:
Implementation of the official protocol --------------------------------------- **Experimenters** *The experimenters for this study have been collecting human behavioral data using E-Prime in our Memory and Attention Control Laboratory for at least one semester already. They are engaged and reliable, which is why we continue to employ them. They were trained on the protocol by running pilot studies on each other and other members of our laboratory. Our experimenters have also been trained previously on an ego depletion project.* **Piloting / training** *The experimenters have piloted the experiment on one another as well as other members of our laboratory.* **Experimenter knowledge of expected outcomes** *There are two experimenters for this experiment, one of whom is blind to the hypothesis and the other is not. The one who is not blind is an honors student who has a lot of research experience so demand characteristics are not likely to occur. Further, both of the experimenters will follow the protocol strictly.* **Recruiting** *We will be sampling Arizona State University undergraduate students who are taking introductory psychology. We can assess demographic information regarding age (18-30), gender, and ethnicity. When participants enroll in studies and need to be excluded from participation because of demographic reasons (age and English not a first language) we typically have them participate in pilot experiments for different projects.* **Sample, subjects, and randomization** *We will continue to run participants who self-register until there are 100 in each condition that are 18-30 years old. Based on our experience, the gender percentage of our participants is about 55% female and 45% male. On the registration website, participants are told only native English speakers may register. Upon arrival, they will also be asked whether English is their native language.* *We will generate a randomized list with 50 participants in each condition.* **Setting/Lab/Equipment** *In our memory and attention control laboratory we have 4 individual data collection rooms that will allow for data collection as specified in the step-by-step protocol. Each experimenter will collect data from 1 participant at a time.* **Document Codes** *Protocol_49TQVF Step-by-step_RS232*
