![RMap Logo][1] ### Overview The RMap Project (short for "Research Map") was an [Alfred P. Sloan Foundation][2]-funded initiative undertaken by: * Johns Hopkins University’s [Data Conservancy][3] - a data curation organization * [IEEE][4] - the world’s largest technical professional organization and publisher of nearly a third of the world’s technical literature in electrical engineering, computer science, and electronics. * [Portico][5] - the digital preservation service of ITHAKA The goal of the project was to produce a prototype framework that makes it possible to preserve the many-to-many complex relationships among scholarly publications and their underlying data, thereby supporting the continual development of scholarly communication and digital publishing. The RMap Project grant period began in April 2014 and ended in November 2017. ### Proposal and introduction Some useful introductory documentation for RMap is available in this project. The [RMap Overview Document][6] and [Press Release][7] provide short summaries of the project's intent. The original [project proposal][8] goes into much more depth (note that early in the project the proposed name was "Matchmaker" - it was later renamed RMap). You can also [watch this on YouTube][11]. ### Live RMap website, code At the time of publication, the first live beta instance of RMap is being hosted by the [Sheridan Libraries at Johns Hopkins University][12] at https://rmap-hub.org. This instance of RMap was initially populated with over 680,000 records representing relationships related to articles published by IEEE.
