Building on national research data infrastructure in Canada, Scholars Portal Dataverse (https://dataverse.scholarsportal.info) is a publicly accessible, secure, multi-disciplinary, and bilingual research data repository supporting 59 institutions across Canada. This presentation will outline how the service has evolved to be more inclusive through community-building initiatives, internationalization efforts to support French-speaking users, development of training and outreach materials to build local capacity, and securing federal funding to reduce direct costs for institutions. We will also outline plans to create an open community of practice for data curators and stewards in collaboration with the Dataverse North Expert Group, which is part of the Digital Research Alliance of Canada's RDM group (formerly NDRIO-Portage), a national organization that coordinates and funds the development of digital research infrastructure and services. This effort aims to provide a space for open sharing of knowledge, expertise, and researcher needs, knowledge which can then be channeled to influence the further development both of the open-source Dataverse repository software itself and to build capacity for support services that are equitable and crucial for the success of research data sharing and reuse.
