Wiki Version:
Even though Texas Holdem is the first game that comes to mind when one thinks of poker, however poker has several variants, each having different rules and details but all following the same basic concept. The different poker formats include, but are not limited to: Texas Holdem, Pot-Limit Omaha, Seven-Card Stud, Omaha Hi-Lo, Five-Card Draw, and Chinese Poker. Texas Holdem is the most popular game of the various **[poker formats][1]** available and is probably the easiest one to play. In this game, every player is dealt two cards facing down and five cards facing up are commonly dealt to all players. The goal is to make the highest ranked five-card poker hand to win the pot. Another game variation within the different poker formats available is the Pot-Limit Omaha. This game differs from Texas Holdem in that every player is dealt four hole cards, and it is necessary to use two of these cards to create the highest ranked give-card poker hand. In the Seven-Card Stud, no community cards are dealt to the players, and the game is played with a fixed betting limit. During the Omaha Hi-Lo game, the pot is normally split between the highest and the lowest hand. In this game, every player is dealt four cards, and four betting rounds take place. Each player is required to make two hands, each one of these hands using two hole cards and three board cards. Generally, the entire pot is won if a player has the best low and high hand. Similar to the Seven-Card Stud, fixed betting limits are also used in the Omaha Hi-Lo game. The Five-Card Draw is a game commonly played as a kid using plastic poker chips or pennies. The rules are simple: Every player is given five cards and then betting takes place. Subsequently, every player may exchange their cards with new cards. Following the draw, another round of betting takes place. At the end of the game, the highest ranked five-card poker hand wins. Chinese poker is another variant of poker that is normally played with four players, during which every player is given thirteen cards. The rules state that the cards must be arranged into three various poker hands: The front hand, the middle hand and the bottom hand. The goal is for each player to score every one of these hands against its corresponding one of every other player. One point is generally won for every hand won against every player, and players normally agree on the dollar value of every point prior to the game. Poker formats are many and the choice of game you wish to play depends on you. In general, poker is certainly an acquired taste, however once you get the hold of it, it is addictively fun.
