## What is this quantitative assessment of research data management practice? ## This tool for the quantitative assessment of research data management practice consists of ten primary questions about researchers' data management practice. These ten primary questions can be substituted with secondary questions as well as with institutional-specific questions. The questionnaire is available under CC0 licence to facilitate the greatest possible re-use. ## What can the assessment be used for? ## It can be used for assessing the research data management practice at institutions. In addition, if repeated at regular intervals, the survey can indicate whether researchers' habits, attitudes and awareness, improve with time. Moreover, if the same set of primary questions are used by independent institutions to assess research data management practice, the resulting data will allow cross-institutional comparisons and benchmarking. ## What are the recommendations for the use of the assessment tool? ## It is recommended that when re-using the survey, the primary set of questions are retained to allow cross-comparisons between institutions. To enable comparisons and to build a database of results readily available for benchmarking, it is also recommended that all new datasets are offered for submission to the existing [repository of datasets in Zenodo][1].
