Description: In our prior work, we reviewed the existing literature regarding the utility of submaximal fitness tests (SMFT) in team-sports. We observed that exercise heart rate (HRex) is the most utilised response measure, likely due to its relative ease of collection, its ability to provide a valid marker of within-athlete exercise intensity, and to provide an additional, non-obtrusive insight into the cardiac autonomic nervous system. The purpose of this project is to establish meta-analytic pooled estimate of SMFT HRex reliability and convergent validity, and examine the influence of players and SMFT modifying effects on the magnitude of these measurement properties.
