Description: Release 1.0 of the Negative Campaigning Comparative Expert Survey (NEGex). * The dataset covers all national elections (N=73) happened worldwide between June 2016 and March 2018. It includes data at the elections, parties, and candidates level. * Variables include the tone of the campaign (negative/positive), the type of attacks (policy/character), target and issue of attacks, the use of emotions (fear, enthusiasm), media coverage, the use of populist appeals (anti-elitism, people-centrism, ..) and the personality of selected candidates (Big Five and Dark Triad).
