Description: When people practice meditation, their minds often shift between focused attention and mind wandering or distraction. The goal of this study is to identify the neural correlates of fluctuating cognitive states that occur during focused attention meditation. Specifically, we use fMRI to determine the brain networks that are active during four phases: focus, mind wandering, awareness of mind wandering, and shifting back to focus. We construct our analyses based on subjective report from participants.
