Description: Release 2.0 of the Negative Campaigning Comparative Expert Survey (NEGex). * The dataset covers all national elections (N=142) happened worldwide between June 2016 and March 2020. It includes data at the elections, parties, and candidates level. * Variables include the tone of the campaign (negative/positive), the type of attacks (policy/character), target and issue of attacks, the use of emotions (fear, enthusiasm), media coverage, the use of populist appeals (anti-elitism, people-centrism, ..) and the personality of selected candidates (Big Five and Dark Triad).

The release 2.0 of the Negative Campaigning Comparative Expert Survey (NEGex) dataset covers all national elections happened worldwide between June 2016 and March 2020.

The data includes information for:

  • 142 national elections (in 105 countries)
  • 720 candidates
  • 457 parties
