Description: In Pilot Studies 1 and 2, we developed the Geneva Sentimentality Scale (GSS) to measure participants' disposition to feel moved. It is now time to use it to investigate the relationship between feelings of being moved (or touched) and feelings of profundity. In this study, our main hypothesis was that participants' ratings of seemingly profound statements as "deep" are predicted by (a) their scores on the Geneva Sentimentality Scale and (b) their scores on the Faith in Intuition scales and (c) that there is a significant interaction between both factors. Additionally, we hypothesized (i) that participants' ratings of statements as "deep" will correlate with their emotional ratings of those statements (whether they found these statements "moving") and (ii) that emotional ratings will mediate the link between GSS scores and depth ratings. We find that feelings of profundity are positively correlated with both tendenct to feel moved/touched (as measured by the GSS) and by participants' ratings of statements as "moving".
