Wiki Version:
Dr. Adam O. Horvath developed and maintains this site: https://wai.profhorvath.com/downloads , for the benefit of researchers and clinicians interested in the Working Alliance Inventory (WAI). He has multiple versions and types and languages of the WAI in pdf and doc form on his website. There are even versions for Couples on there too. I have downloaded and attached the 12-item Short Form version he professionally suggests to use the newer version that Dr. Robert L. Hatcher and Arthur J. Gillapsy made after conducting research on the WAI by utilizing a much larger database than the Kokotowitz & Tracy sample, and have used more sophisticated statistical procedures, to derive a parsimonious subset of the full-scale WAI instrument that not only closely parallels the total alliance level obtained with the regular WAI, but also closely reflect the scores on the three (Bond, Goal Tack) subscales. The resulting instrument appears to have far superior psychometric properties compared to the older version (Kokotovic & Tracy, 1990). As a result of their work, they developed a new Short Form of the WAI.
