Wiki Version:
The main purpose of this study is to test the causal effects of the mediation model. As such, we will first test whether the false feedback altered scores on any of the mediator or dependent variables. Therefore, we will create the mediation model used previously. with both treatment indicators and treatment by Need for Achievement indicators on all of the variables. This will be done using the following code: ANALYSIS: estimator = ML; bootstrap = 10000; MODEL: enjoyadult ON badfeedback nfa nfaxbadfeed; enjoychild ON art enjoyadult badfeedback nfa nfaxbadfeed; enjoypeers ON art enjoyadult badfeedback nfa nfaxbadfeed; ktd ON art enjoyadult enjoychild enjoypeers badfeedback nfa nfaxbadfeed; enjoychild WITH enjoypeers; art WITH enjoyadult; In the absence of any treatment by need for achievement moderations, we will drop the need for achievement and interaction from the model and re-run the analysis. ANALYSIS: estimator = ML; bootstrap = 10000; MODEL: enjoyadult ON badfeedback; enjoychild ON art enjoyadult badfeedback; enjoypeers ON art enjoyadult badfeedback; ktd ON art enjoyadult enjoychild enjoypeers badfeedback; enjoychild WITH enjoypeers; art WITH enjoyadult; Any significant interaction effects will be subject to spotlight analysis to understand the nature of the moderation. We predict that the bad feedback will either effect kids these days beliefs directly, or indirectly through enjoyment as a child or peers or adulthood. We will collect 1500 participants drawn in a stratified way with unequal probabilities of selection, so that the people who complete each survey will resemble the nation's adult population (according to the most recently available Current Population Survey, conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau) in terms of gender, age, education, ethnicity (Hispanic vs. not), race (allowing each respondent to select more than one race), region, and income. Any participant that participaned in another version of this study using the ART will not be invited to participate in this study.
