Description: This paper will seek empirical evidence of research practices in the field of agricultural economics that can affect the credibility and replicability of empirical findings. We will collect thousands of test statistics from hundreds of recently published agricultural economics papers in top journals to demonstrate the causes and scope of the problem of replicability. We will look for evidence of low statistical power of research designs which, coupled with publication bias, lead to the use of questionable research practices in empirical research. We plan to offer suggestions on best practices to address these issues for editors, peer reviewers, and authors.
