The TDR Global team believes this scoping review is vital as it is important to identify research mentorship gaps in health and build research capacity in LMIC. This scoping review adds to the literature by highlighting the attributes of successful individual and institutional mentorship. Additionally, we aim to aid in the creation of a pipeline of skilled researchers that can contribute to discussions of global health. Specifically, we believe it is key to related open-access resources focused on building capacity through research mentorship in LMIC settings.
This scoping review aims to identify and describe models of individual and institutional research mentorship experience for individuals in the area of research with a focus on research mentorship in low and middle-income countries (LMIC). It also aims to summarize best practices, lessons, strengths, and weaknesses of previously completed research mentorship in these settings.
