Description: In Studies 1 and 2, we found that participants’ disposition to feel moved/touched predicted participants’ ratings of profundity. This suggests that feelings of being moved/touched are connected to feelings of profundity. However, it might be that this connection is not specific to feelings of being moved/touched but shared by all positive emotions, or at least by all ‘self-transcendent’ positive emotions (such as awe and gratitude). In Study 3b, we explore this possibility by comparing to which extent various emotional dispositions (to experience positive emotions) predict participants’ feelings of profundity. Our hypothesis was that, among a variety of emotional dispositions, participants’ disposition to feel moved/touched would be the best predictor of feelings of profundity. Additionally, we were interested in investigating the relationship between participants’ disposition to feel moved/touched and feelings of profundity for a wider array of statements.
