Description: This OSF project documents Malik Sharif’s long-term research endeavor on various aspects of the history of musicology from the 19th to the 21st century. In the context of this research, musicology is understood broadly, encompassing all varieties of scholarly or scientific study of music. The main research topics thus far have been: Charles Seeger’s meta-musicology; early theories of applied musicology; the history of comparative musicology and ethnomusicology (with a focus on Austria); and developments in musicological publishing.
