Wiki Version:
Overview: - We used data from Schwaighofer et al. (2016) who preregistered their study [here][1] - Schwaighofer et al. investigated if the worked example effect depends on prior knowledge, WMC, shifting ability, and fluid intelligence (original study published in JEP) - We analyzed self-explanation data from Schwaighofer et al. and used conditional process analysis to test if the worked example effect is mediated by self-explanation quality, and if any effects are contingent on the moderators prior knowledge, executive functions, and fluid intelligence. - This study is our original investigation of the SE quality as mediator in the worked examples – problem-solving paradigm. Shared documents: - Open Access paper (pdf) - Data set including variables used in this study (except for demographic variables including covariates age and semester) - Copy of output for all reported analyses - Syntax (except for conditional process analyses; analyses can be reproduced with information in the output file) - Study overview, materials and codebook Notes: - Results cannot be exactly reproduced with the shared data set because age and semester (covariates) were taken out from the data set to ensure participants' anonymity. A combination of demographic variables could theoretically identify a person. Please reach out to us if there are any concerns and we happily provide any other needed information. - We also happily share study materials in ppp (editable format)! [1]: https://osf.io/dx6qv/
