Terminology Note: Many other terms have been used to refer to the population of interest, including Native American and Indigenous People. We use American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) in accordance with the 1977 joint resolution of the National Congress of American Indians and the National Tribal Chairmen’s Association, that in the absence of a specific tribal designation, American Indian and/or Alaska Native is the preferred term of reference. Our study includes individuals from many different tribal groups across the U.S., making the general AI/AN term most appropriate in this context. Project Overview: This is a cross-sectional observational study of an adult, urban-dwelling, community sample of American Indians and Alaska Natives (AI/AN). Each study participant was asked to complete a half-day session at the research center, followed by 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure (ABP) monitoring with ecological momentary assessment (EMA), and then a debriefing interview. Participants could opt-out of any study procedure/measure they did not wish to complete.
