This webpage describes the methodology and provides detailed results of a guideline development process for the development, implementation and reporting of control interventions in efficacy and mechanistic trials of physical, psychological and self-management interventions. The guideline was developed based on: 1. A systematic review of methods and meta-analysis 2. A 3-round Delphi study with experts in relevant clinical trials and the study of the placebo effect 3. Interviews with patient partners 4. Consensus meetings and collaborative manuscript writing Individual methods and results are described in the respective documents on this webpage.
